Manitoba Hydro, a provincial Crown Corporation, provides The Pas and the communities in northern Manitoba electric power supply through its land line power transmission networks. Virtually all electric energy provided by Manitoba Hydro is generated from self-renewing waterpower. There are two major hydro generating stations in northern Manitoba - one of them is located on the Nelson River near Gillam and another is on the Saskatchewan River near Grand Rapids, approximately 4 kilometers from Lake Winnipeg.

Manitoba boasts one of the lowest hydro rates in North America and Manitoba Hydro exports a portion of its electric power supply to several states in USA. Manitoba Hydro's customer service station for the region is based in The Pas.
